Watch what participants actually do, not just what they say. Screen Recording captures hesitations, wrong turns, and moments of delight — with narration alongside.
How it works
Participants start a screen recording directly in their browser - no additional software or plugins required. They share their screen and Qualzy captures the session. One permission click is all it takes to begin.
Participants can narrate as they go - explaining their thinking, describing what they see, expressing frustration or delight in real time. The audio narration is recorded alongside the screen capture throughout the session. An optional webcam feed can also be recorded simultaneously, capturing facial expressions and emotional reactions as they happen.
Moderators and researchers can review the recording with full playback control - scrubbing to specific moments and reading the narration transcript in sync. Every reaction is anchored to its moment in the journey.
Participant experience
Participants click to start their screen share in any browser - no downloads, no extensions. As they complete the task, they narrate naturally.
It feels less like a test and more like thinking aloud - which produces the most honest insight. Participants often find it more comfortable than an interview.
Live in-browser screen recording works on desktop and laptop. Mobile participants can upload a pre-recorded screen recording file instead — so the activity works across all devices.
Participant taps their invitation link and opens the Screen Recording activity - no software to install.
One browser permission click begins the capture. The participant chooses which screen or window to share.
Browses a website, tests an app, completes a checkout - whatever the task requires, captured in real time.
Optional but encouraged - thinking aloud whilst completing the task produces the most revealing commentary.
Participant ends the recording when finished. The session is submitted and AI processing of the narration begins immediately.
AI analysis
The verbal narration becomes a fully analysed dataset - transcribed, summarised, and queryable - without anyone needing to watch an hour of screen footage.
Transcription
The verbal narration is auto-transcribed with timestamps - so moderators can read exactly what the participant said at every moment in the session, without rewatching the full recording.
Key Points
AI extracts key points from the narration transcript - flagging the moments where the participant expressed confusion, frustration, or positive reaction. Each key point links back to the timestamped moment in the recording.
Maizy Chat
Query across all screen recording narrations at any point during or after fieldwork: "Where did participants struggle with the checkout?" or "What triggered positive reactions on the product page?"
Use cases
Participants navigate a website while thinking aloud. Find the friction points, the confusing navigation, and the moments of clarity - behaviourally, in real time, without a lab or a moderator in the room.
Capture participants using a mobile or desktop app. Combine screen recording with follow-up discussion for the full picture - what they did, and what they thought about it afterwards.
Follow participants from initial search through to checkout. The full browse-to-buy journey, documented with verbal commentary at every step - from product discovery to payment confirmation.
Share a clickable prototype and watch participants navigate it. Captures behavioural evidence before a product is built - so development decisions are grounded in actual usage patterns, not assumptions.
